5 ways to get rid of scars

They most often result from burns, accidents, and surgery. They can cause discomfort regardless of age or gender. Unwanted souvenirs, scars – are there ways to get rid of them once and for all?

What are scars?

A scar is a skin lesion that forms during the healing process following an injury. From the moment it forms until approximately 12 months later, it is considered "fresh," meaning it is not fully formed. During this time, collagen and elastic fibers are being formed within the developing scar, explains Agnieszka Owczarek, an expert at Noble Health. "This is also the most favorable time to reduce scars, and in some cases, even eliminate them completely. To effectively combat scars, you should try multiple methods simultaneously; this will significantly increase the chances of success. Reducing old, extensive lesions is difficult, but even then, they can be reduced and their appearance improved," adds the expert. Noble Health.

Collagen delivery

External delivery stimulates collagen fibers. In practice, the active product penetrates subsequent layers of the skin, replenishing its deficiencies, and the overgrown scar tissue becomes brighter and smoother. Similar to stretch marks. – assures Agnieszka Owczarek, an expert at the Noble Health brand. – Increasing collagen levels also helps fight deep scars. After several weeks of taking collagen tablets, such as Class A Collagen, the edges of moles become softened, and the scar itself it is shallower and the color begins to resemble healthy skin.

Collagen treatment is perfectly complemented by ointments

You can find many products in stores and pharmacies, the cheapest costing just a few złoty. What should you consider when choosing one? Primarily, the size and depth of the scar," explains the Noble Health expert. "For shallower and less extensive scars, it's enough to apply creams or ointments containing allantoin, sodium heparin, and onion ethanol extract twice a day. Compresses made from onion slices are also a home remedy our grandmothers used to remove unwanted moles. Silicone-based products work well for deeper scars. Regular use of these products has a softening effect. However, it's important to remember that creams should only be applied after the wound has completely healed and is free of scabs."

Massages

When applying cream to moles, it's a good idea to stimulate the damaged skin with gentle massages. Massage will improve blood flow to the affected area, and will also allow the product's active ingredients to penetrate deeper layers of the skin. This treatment doesn't need to be long; 5-6 minutes twice a day is enough until the cream is fully or partially absorbed.

Peelings

A good way to reduce skin lesions is exfoliation. For less visible scars, home treatments repeated two to three times a week are sufficient. However, for large and old moles, it's better to undergo a series of professional treatments. There are quite a few options, some of which include laser dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, or fractional laser. Don't be fooled by trends. A dermatologist or cosmetologist should select the treatment based on the type of scar. Professional peels They abrade the epidermis along with the upper layers of the skin. This stimulates collagen fibers, accelerates skin regeneration, and reduces scarring, explains the Noble Health expert. "After the first treatments, the skin may sting and be slightly red. During this time, you should avoid cigarette smoke, sun exposure, and makeup."

Sun protection

For at least a year after a scar appears, you should avoid sun exposure. Some people believe that skin lesions should be tanned because they fade. In fact, the opposite is true. Sunbathing or tanning beds can darken and enlarge the scar, warns a Noble Health expert. "Of course, this doesn't mean you have to hide from the sun for a year. You can combat harmful UV radiation by massaging sunscreen into the affected areas."
